Ready or Not: A Realistic SWAT Game.

SWAT detaining criminals.

Ready or Not is an FPS tactical shooter that will have you on the edge of your seat. It is like a spiritual successor to SWAT 4, but with newer graphics and functional mechanics. In the game, you play as a SWAT team from the Los Suenos Police Department in the fictional city of Los Suenos, California. Unfortunately, the city is plagued with rising levels of crime and corruption.

You can customize your character and loadout. Each gun can have different attachments, like a laser pointer or a muzzle. The gunplay also feels realistic. The way your character holds the gun makes it feel heavy.

You can play single-player with AI team members or have others play with you online as your team. Although the AI is smart enough to use angle wisely and complete a specific task, playing with your friends is definitely more compelling, as you use real teamwork to complete an objective. However, the single-player gameplay is just as compelling. The AI is smart enough to handle breaches independently while you stand aside. You can also queue commands that your AI squad will follow, like stacking up on a door. Not only that, you must take great care of your team members. Specific actions can unlock new skills, but certain actions, like killing civilians, can cause them to lose their morale and be forced to resign if their mental health is not kept in check. All this makes your squad more human.

Another aspect that enhances the gameplay is the setting. The setting is also well done. The game does not hesitate to feature dark and sensitive topics that most people would have in real life. Settings like a patient with cancer whose family is in so much medical debt that they had to turn to a life of crime in order to pay the bills or even an illegally operating bitcoin mining building.
